SPSA Thanksgiving Day Holiday Schedule
(Chesapeake, VA – November 19, 2007) – For the Thursday, November 22, 2007 Thanksgiving Day Holiday, all of SPSA’s administrative offices will be closed.
The Regional Landfill in Suffolk, the Refuse Derived Fuel Plant in Portsmouth, the Norfolk Transfer Station, and the Landstown (Virginia Beach) will observe a regular work days. All other operating facilities however will be closed on Thursday. The following changes will occur on Thursday regarding curbside recycling services:
- Southampton County, Norfolk, and government homes will be collected on Thursday as normal
- Chesapeake’s Thursday routes will be collected on Saturday---the same as their trash day
- Smithfield’s Thursday and Friday routes will be collected on Friday
- No business recycling routes will be affected.
Finally, for Friday, all of SPSA administrative offices will be closed; all SPSA operating facilities will observe a regular workday on Friday.

SPSA has been providing
efficient and environmentally sound waste disposal services to the region
and its residents since 1985. SPSA’s solid waste management system
includes waste-to-energy, yard waste composting, drop-off and curbside
recycling as well as other recycling programs, household hazardous waste
collection, landfilling, landfill gas-to-energy and education programs.
This integrated waste management system enables SPSA to put 57% of the
waste it receives to a beneficial use, thus allowing the region to reduce
its dependence on landfills.
