Roy Chesson
Roy Chesson served
as an officer in the United States Navy for over 19 years with most duty
assignments in Engineering. These included tours as the Chief Staff Officer of
a Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron, Engineering Officer aboard two naval
warships, the Safety and Quality Assurance Officer at Canada’s largest naval
shipyard (a foreign exchange tour), Maintenance Manager and Quality Assurance
Officer of an aircraft carrier, and team leader of an engineering training and
inspection team.
Mr. Chesson has a
Master's Degree in Business Administration from Old Dominion University and a
Bachelor's of Science from the United States Naval Academy.
After retiring
from the Navy, he then worked for over 12 years for a government contractor
providing logistic and administrative support for NASA atmospheric science field
missions in remote locations around the world. During this time he gained
experience in contracting and purchasing.
Mr. Chesson
currently works as a Management Analyst for the Newport News Department of
Public Works. In this role he is involved in the review and evaluation of
programs, policies, and procedures in solid waste management, street
maintenance, wastewater and storm water management, and public building
maintenance. He is also works with the City’s Capital Improvement Program
Committee to develop the five year CIP plan. He is a member of the
American Public Works Association, serving as an accreditation evaluator.
