Just as other recyclables such as aluminum and plastic, yard waste should be
separated from household trash and bundled or placed in clear plastic bags.
This material may be
recycled through SPSA's yard waste management program. Many
municipalities offer curbside pickup of yard waste. Residents may also
deliver their yard waste directly to SPSA's Yard Waste Facility free of charge.
Clear plastic bags are required for all bagged material. The Yard Waste Facility
is located at 1991 Jake Sears Road in Virginia Beach. Rather than bury this
material in a landfill, SPSA recycles it, using an innovative program to convert
yard waste into popular compost and mulch products which can be used in your
lawn and garden to improver their health and appearance.
The following items are
common yard waste products accepted for recycling at SPSA:
- Leaves
- Grass clippings
- Brush and tree trimmings up to six inches in diameter
- Clean, untreated wood pallets
- Other clean wood waste may be accepted by special arrangement
These items are not accepted:
- Brush and tree trimmings over six inches in diameter
- Stumps
- Large logs
- Treated wood waste
- Household solid waste
- Glass
- Metal
- Construction Debris
- Yard waste mixed in with household waste
