"No Zone" Drivers Education Program
Promoting safe driving practices is important to SPSA. That's why SPSA participates in the Virginia Trucking Association's "No Zone" Campaign.
Professional SPSA drivers are available to visit area high schools as part of a driver's education program. Using a video and a tractor-trailer truck, the drivers teach students how to share the
road with tractor trailers, including safe passing techniques, braking distances, blind spots and more. The goal of this free program is reduce highway accidents and injuries.

Safe Sharps Program
The following is SPSA’s guidance regarding the proper household disposal of sharps. It is based upon the Environmental Protection Agency guidance:
- Improper management of discarded needles and other sharps can pose a health risk to the public and solid waste workers. For example, improperly discarded needles may expose our employees to potential needle stick injuries and potential infection when containers break open inside garbage trucks or needles are mistakenly sent to recycling facilities. Used needles can transmit serious diseases, such as HIV and hepatitis.
- Residents should place needles, syringes, lancets, and other sharp objects in a hard-plastic or metal container with a screw-on or tightly secured lid. You may purchase containers specifically designed for the disposal of medical waste sharps or utilize other containers which meet the specifications of a safe sharps disposal container which may be found in your home.
- Before discarding a container, be sure to reinforce the lid with heavy-duty tape. Do not put sharp objects in any container you plan to recycle or return to a store, and do not use glass or clear plastic containers. Label containers clearly with the words "Do Not Recycle". Finally, make sure that you keep all containers with sharp objects out of the reach of children and pets.
